I DON'T HAVE THE........MONEY
TOP 5 TIPS TO MANAGE YOUR MONEY BETTER
Money is all powerful, we need it to survive in the world and although some people place more importance on money than others the fact still remains that we need money to live the lifestyle that makes us happy. It is also a widely accepted view that we need our health to live that same lifestyle and to be happy. Without our health it is unlikely that we will even be able to earn the money in the first place and thus one is very much dependent on the other. So it follows that we should use our money to help us look after our health.........and use our health to help us look after our money. Below are 5 tips to help you manage your money a little better and help you get into the right mind set regarding investing in your health and becoming a fitter, more active and happier person;
TOP 5 TIPS TO MANAGE YOUR MONEY BETTER1) First Things First It's a theme that runs throughout our articles in the “I DON'T HAVE......” series but something that is none the less very relevant – consider what is most important to you. Without your health and well-being everything else suffers, from your career and feeling of self worth right down to the relationships with the people who you hold most dear. Once we establish that our health is paramount to our happiness then we can start to prioritize, budget and spend accordingly.
2) List and Prioritize Your Expenses The key to looking after your money is monitoring where it goes. Make a list of your expenses and then prioritize them. Food and shelter obviously come first, including rent or mortgage payment, real estate taxes, and any home association or other housing expenses that may lead to the loss of your home. Then comes essential utilities like heat, water and electricity. Car expenses and insurance come next (if your job depends on you getting there by car) followed by other insurances. Your income should cover these expenses comfortably and you can start concentrating on what you are going to do with the money left over.
3) Track Your Spending Try tracking your spending for 30 days then decide what items you are willing to sacrifice to save money. Would you be just as happy with a glass of water at lunch or is that $2.00 cup of coffee or soda necessary to your diet? However, the important phrase is “willing to sacrifice”. Although all of us could sacrifice a few things, the truth is that often we just won’t. Don’t make promises to yourself that you won’t keep.
4) Budget For Your Health When you have worked out how much is left over, have a think about the exercise you enjoy doing the most along with any supplements and additional food you might need to help you achieve your goals. If you worked out that you enjoy jogging the most then your spend on exercise is going to be pretty low – congratulations! You are not going to have any issues funding your healthy exercise regime! However most people don't get that excited about jogging and some need the extra motivation that comes with group exercise, a sports team or a personal trainer. If this is the case for you then actively set aside a weekly amount that is dedicated to funding the steps you need to take to become a healthier person. If you are using a personal trainer a couple of times a week this might seem like a steep figure but is there really a price you can put on feeling healthy, energetic and brimming with self confidence??
Switching to a healthier lifestyle can save you money. If you cut out the alcohol, reduce the frequency you eat out (in favour of healthier meals cooked at home), and consider the money saved on medical costs then you will almost certainly be able to cover the new investment in exercise and better nutrition. It's not very often you can actually improve you life whilst making a saving so grab the opportunity and start today!!
